The Next Steps for Government of India
We have seen that the government of India could not achieve those goals which were in our contemplation when we were fighting our war of independence. We had been under slavery for centuries and there were hopes that after attaining independence, we shall be able to root out our illiteracy, our unemployment, our poverty, we shall be able to provide to each family reasonable accommodation to live in, we shall be able to see that there shall be no beggar and all disable people shall be provided with suitable living on state expenses, we shall be able to see that every child shall go to school and none shall be there on road collecting valuables from the garbage or shall be working at homes and in the factories, we were having hopes that our women shall get due status and they shall not be harassed by in laws when they bring dowry on the lower side, we were having hopes that the people shall be healthy and they shall be getting proper treatment when they fall ill, but all these hopes have been dashed to the ground because these problems are still alive with the people and all the wealth which the people created has been swallowed by a few who are in power. |
Therefore, time has come when we should think over these problems afresh and we must tell our government to wipe of all their planning and come forward with new schemes with which they should have in view these problems during the next five years. If there is a five year plan or other annual plans, those should be stopped and the state must come with a plan under which they should try to root out poverty from this country and therefore, every able person should be at work and should be earning so that he himself should be able to solve his family problems himself and he should not be dependant upon the state. Every family should be having suitable income and they should get necessary commodities at reasonable prices so that they could be able to run their family administration with the income they have.
If able body people get employment for the whole year and they bring money in their families, they shall be sending their wards to schools, they shall be constructing suitable accommodations for their families and they shall ensure that they are saving for their rainy days. They shall look after their old people themselves and the state shall not be liable to look after most of the affairs of the people. State help is needed only when the people are not able to maintain themselves and if they are able to maintain themselves, they shall not require state help.
So the state must apply its mind on these points and they should modify their annual plans and five year plans and this should be done without any further delay. They should recall their annual and five years plans and give them new shapes. |
